Bark in the Park
Maya and I walked our 3rd annual Bark in the Park with our good friend, Nora. We were also joined this year by a teacher from my school and her puppy, Cyrus. Maya and Cyrus got along pretty well. She just might have a new boyfriend!
Krystle Carrington the Cat
My good friend, Nora, got a new kitten over the Winter. Her name is Krystle Carrington and she is a fancy kitty. She's a breed called a Ragdoll (like the Aerosmith song). She's a very cool call because they have dog-like behavior and rabbit-like fur. We've been eager for Maya and Krystle to meet. The first time they saw each other was through a window. Krystle curiously looked out and Maya eagerly tried to peek in. So we arranged a meeting and Maya was very afraid of Krystle - she didn't know that it was supposed to be the other way around. We are hoping that once all of Krystle's claws are removed, they will be able to hang out.Friday, April 24, 2009
Goodbye Private Beach!
It was 80 degrees in Chicago today for the first time in about 8 months. This is good and bad. It's great because we are all sick of brutally cold weather, cleaning snow off cars, taking 10 minutes to bundle up before going outside, etc. However, it's bad because the abandoned beach that has been our own private beach for the past 8 months is now being invaded by people! All of these visitors to the beach also mean that the police will be out to make sure that people are behaving and dogs are on-leash. We have a solid month now until the lifeguards come back on Memorial Day weekend and prohibit dogs at the beach after 9 a.m. But we can't complain too much because that also means that the school year is wrapping up!

Brrrrr!!!

Chicago has been so brutally cold this Winter! There have been a few days where the temperature was in the single digits and windchill has gotten to around -40 degrees at the lakefront. We have received a ton of snow, which means that Maya is in Heaven! She gets so excited to run through fresh snow! Unfortunately for her, Renzo and I have our limitations of how long we are willing to be in the cold so Maya is not getting quite as much play time as she would like.

Northern Michigan

We spent the Columbus Day weekend relaxing in Northern Michigan. The Fall leaves were gorgeous! Maya enjoyed having the entire beach to herself. We spent some time in the row boat and a lot more time playing Fetch on the beach. We just so happened to be there during elk mating season. At the elk preserve, we saw some really amazing animals up close. The elk were interested in Maya but she didn't pay any attention to them. The only time that she got excited at the perserve was when a chipmunk ran past her.
